Choosing the Right Rain Gutter Material

Rain Gutter

If you’re looking for new rain gutters for your home or business, your choice in vendors is already clear: The experts at Double T have been providing top-quality services in rain gutter installation and rain gutter repair since 1996.

What may not be quite as clear, though, is your choice of materials. At Double T, we offer rain gutters in steel, copper and aluminum – which might be best for you? Let’s take a look at each and find out.

Steel

Steel products have some of the most variability in their uses and benefits. Galvanized steel, a very popular item among homeowners given its low cost and durability, is coated with a layer of zinc for protection. Galvanized steel can rust at times, though, and you’ll have to re-paint it every so often in some climates.

Stainless steel, on the other hand, has similar durability properties without any corrosion issues. Because it’s likely the most solid product all around, it’s also usually the most expensive.

Copper

Cooper is another high-end material, similar to stainless steel. It’s extremely durable, a major factor in these kinds of decisions. It doesn’t rust, just like stainless steel, and it can be a very desirable product for people who care about the aesthetics of the outside of their home due to its attractive look. Like stainless steel, it’s on the pricier side of your options, but you can’t get much higher quality or appearance.

Aluminum

For a great combination of price and durability, aluminum is the way to go. Aluminum is lightweight and easy to work with, which makes it perfect for do-it-yourself types around the home. It’s also rust-proof, so you don’t deal with corrosion.

Aluminum gutters can also be given a seamless design, which means they have no seams anywhere and can prevent bits of leakage other formats may not. Aluminum is slightly less durable than other products listed above and may dent, but in many situations, this is a low risk that’s made up for by its affordable price and other benefits.
